we sprinted up the coast trying to catch the sunset.
“i’m always chasing the sun,” i said.
we stopped at the general store and asked the boy
at the counter for directions
to big sur.
we missed it by three miles
but made it for sunset,
jogging in boots that eventually were soaked in the ocean.
i climbed rocks with my camera and fell in water more than once
and when the sunlight had all but died out,
i said:
i really,
i really don’t think i’ll ever leave.
